The first king of the Royal House of Romania Carol I was born Karl Eitel von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, second son of Karl Anton, Fürst von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. His nephew and successor, Ferdinand I of Romania, was the son of Leopold , Fürst von Hohenzollern. Prince Paul of Romania is the senior grand-grand-son of Ferdinand I , thus a cousin of Karl Friedrich, actual Fürst von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and values very much the historical connection with the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
